Adenosine Kinase or Adenosine 5'-phosphotransferase (ADK) is an abundant enzyme present in mammalian tissues that catalyzes the transfer of the gamma-phosphate from ATP to adenosine. Therefore, it is a regulator of concentrations for both extracellular adenosine and intracellular adenine. Adenosine has significant effects on the cardiovascular, nervous, respiratory, and immune systems. Inhibitors of that enzyme play an important pharmacological role in increasing intravascular adenosine concentrations and acting as anti-inflammatory agents.
Recombinant Human Adenosine Kinase produced in E.Coli is a single non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 362 amino acids (22-362a.a.) and having a molecular mass of 40.5 kDa. Adenosine Kinase protein is fused to a 21 amino acid His tag at N-terminal and is purified by chromatography.
